Assistive Technology

The loan period for circulating assistive devices is three weeks.

How to Make Text Bigger

On a PC: Press & hold the ‘Ctrl’ key while you briefly press the ‘+’ key.
On a Mac: Press & hold the ‘command’ key while you briefly press the ‘+’ key.
Do this several times until the screen size is just right for you.

ADA Computer Workstation

The Glenview Public Library’s ADA Computer Workstation is equipped with hardware and software designed to help patrons with visual impairments. Library use only.

Adapt-a-Lap

This assistive reading device holds printed materials for those who need to have their hands free while reading or who cannot hold a heavy book. Available for checkout.

Chicagoland Radio Information Service (CRIS)

CRIS is a not-for-profit organization that provides daily readings of newspapers and periodicals including news stories, sale circulars, and the classified listings for persons with visual or physical disabilities. With the help of volunteers, CRIS broadcasts verbatim readings of many local newspapers, magazines, and special interest programming. A special receiver is available for checkout.

LED Stand Magnifiers

Illuminated stand magnifiers are available in four different magnification strengths (3X, 5X, 8X, and 10X). Available for checkout.

Magna-Page Full Page Magnifiers

Available at the Reader Services Desk. They provide 2X clear full page viewing, excellent for reading fine print in books, maps and documents. Library use only.

Merlin HD Video Magnifier

The Merlin HD is a high performance desktop video magnifier (CCTV), featuring high definition color and contrast, simple, easy-to-use tactile controls, adjustable magnification and viewing modes. You can easily read books and magazines, read and write letters, view color photos and more. Library use only.
Location: Second Floor, Adult Public Computer Area, Station #20.

TTY

A TTY for patron use is located at the Reader Services Desk. Patrons wanting to make a call to the Library’s TTY may call 847-729-7529.

Wheelchair

Available at the Information Desk for library patrons. Library use only. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
