School Library Card

All Glenview schools are eligible for a School Library Card. Two school personnel are authorized to use the card. All requests must be made through these authorized personnel.

Benefits of a School Library Card:

  • Three-week check out time for books with automatic renewal available
  • Sturdy bags to hold large book loans
  • Librarian-selected materials in the subject area or theme you specify

Contact your school librarian to request materials.

Library Visits

Grades K-2—Storytime & Tour

Time Varies

Your storytime program may feature puppets, props, music, and, of course, great books. A tour of the Youth Services Department will follow.

Grades 2-8—Full Library Tour

45 minutes

Students tour the Library with special emphasis on the Youth Services Department. Tours may be combined with book talks or Storytimes.

Programs at Your School

Grades K-2—Storytime

Time Varies

We offer one traveling storytime program during the school year for each class.

Grades 3-8—Book Talks

Time Varies

During the school year, a Youth Services Librarian is available to come to your school and book talk some of our favorite books or books in a theme you specify.

To schedule a book talk or storytime, contact the Youth Services Department.

Battle of the Books

The Glenview Library annually sponsors a tournament in January and February for fourth and fifth graders to test their book knowledge. Teams of four read from a selected list and try to identify books from a series of questions. All participants receive a certificate and are invited to a party at the end of the season. Informational school visits begin in October and registration runs through November. Ask your school librarian for more information.

Assignment Needs

Glenview Schools’ Assignment Alert Form

The Glenview Public Library would like to help students and teachers with their assignment needs. Teachers can use this form to alert library staff about upcoming assignments and projects.

Resources

Book Discussion Sets

The Library has Group Discussion Sets (10 paperback copies) of over 30 popular titles. Schools may check out entire sets for five weeks on a school library card.

Textbook Collection

We house textbooks from OLPH, District 34, and St. Catherine Laboure for use in the Library. These non-circulating books are a great resource for students and patrons. If your school is interested in donating current textbooks, please contact the School Services Coordinator at 847-729-7500 x2913.
