Free Online Resources for Kids

Here are a selection of free online tools for kids to use while school is closed.

Audible Stories

Stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet.

BrainPOP

BrainPop offers in-depth learning on a variety of topics, including videos, quizzes, related reading, and coding activities. The site also has BrainPop Jr. for younger kids.

BreakoutEDU

Breakout EDU, a website that offers escape rooms, is offering a collection of free, digital games that students can play at home.

Code

Learn to code online with Code.org! The site provides free, one-hour K-12 computer science lessons and games.

edHelper

edHelper provides printable worksheets to teachers and homeschooling parents. Right now, edHelper is offering daily free workbook pages for grades K-6.

Freckle

Freckle provides free online learning resources for younger students with different ability levels. Users simply need to sign up for a free account.

Fun Brain

Fun Brain has games and videos to encourage pre-K to 8th grade students to explore topics in math and reading.

Kate Messner – Read, Wonder, and Learn!

Some of our favorite authors and illustrators share resources and books for learning anywhere.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy provides free videos and online tools for learners from preschool through high school on math, science, arts and humanities, and more!

Kids Activities

Kids Activities provides free crafts and activity ideas to do with your children at home.

Mystery Science

Mystery Science offers video mini-lessons for science subjects K-5. They created a special School Closure Planning listing.

Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids

The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids features games, riddles, and puzzles for younger children.

PBS Kids

PBS Kids offers free interactive content like sing-along videos, TV series, games, virtual lessons and more.

Read Together, Be Together 

Join Penguin Random House and Meredith/PARENTS for a series of daily virtual story times with bestselling and award-winning authors and illustrators, and celebrity readers.

Scholastic Learn At Home

Scholastic created the Scholastic Learn at Home website to provide about 20 days of cross-curricular learning journeys. Each day, users can access four separate learning experiences that lasts about 3 hours that include virtual field trips, reading challenges, stories, and more.

Storyline Online

Storyline Online provides free videos of famous actors reading popular children’s books, as well as activities guides.

Xtra Math

This site provides free math activities for a variety of age groups and ability levels.

Resources Accessible with a Glenview Public Library Card

hoopla

Stream or download eBooks, audiobooks, comics, music, movies, and TV shows to your computer or mobile device. You can access up to eight titles per month using your Glenview Public Library card. All titles are immediately available—no holds! The hoopla app is also available.

kanopy

Stream thousands of documentaries, independent productions, foreign and short films instantly from your Roku, mobile device or computer. When you use your Glenview Public Library card, you can access up to five items per month from the general collection plus unlimited Kanopy Kids and Great Courses for 30 days.

Libby from OverDrive (Digital Library of Illinois)

Download eBooks and audiobooks to your computer, eReader, or mobile device—up to ten items at a time—when you use your Glenview Public Library card. The Libby app is also available.

National Geographic Kids

Full-text National Geographic Kids books and magazines with downloadable images. Available for free when you use your Glenview Public Library card.

RBdigital

Download eMagazines to your computer or mobile device. Read full-color, cover-to-cover issues as soon as they’re available, no waiting, when you use your Glenview Public Library card. The RBdigital app is also available.

Tumble Book Library

Tumble Book Library offers animated talking picture books with puzzles and games. Books and games are also available in Spanish and French. Additional books available in Russian and Chinese. IPad Compatible. Available for free when you use your Glenview Public Library card.
