Youth Services – Temporary Summer Intern
The Glenview Public Library is seeking a part-time, paid summer intern in the Youth Services Department to assist with summer reading volunteers. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic and patient, enjoy working with children and teens, and passionate about encouraging children to read for enjoyment. This is a temporary position that does not include benefits.
Responsibilities include assisting library staff with:
Conducting training sessions for summer reading volunteers
Coaching and mentoring volunteers throughout the program
Scheduling and communicating work assignments to volunteers
Overseeing summer reading program projects for volunteers
Tracking statistics and other record keeping
Assisting with summer reading logging and registration
Other duties as assigned
Abilities & Skills
Effectively communicate in oral and written English
Comfortable speaking to and directing groups of middle school youth and older
Able to collaborate within a team environment, prioritize work and meet deadlines
Experience working with youth and teens and providing customer service to a diverse audience
Display a positive attitude and ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
Knowledge of common office computer applications and spreadsheets, and willingness to learn specialized software, such as, Volgistics and Beanstack
Schedule: 10-week internship lasting late May through early August, approximately 20-25 hours per week. Must be flexible to work daytime, evening and some weekend hours. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience working with youth. Preference given to those enrolled in or recently graduated from an LTA or MLS program. Hiring Range: $10.75 per hour. Youth Services – Paraprofessional I, Part-Time
The Glenview Public Library has a part-time opening for a Paraprofessional I in the Youth Services Department. Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting children through grade eight and their caregivers with finding materials, instructing patrons in the use of the online catalog and computer resources, handling event registrations and providing program support, filling displays, assisting with collection-related duties and performing other tasks as assigned.
Applicants should enjoy working with children of all ages and patrons from diverse backgrounds, be proficient in the use of technology and able to collaborate and work well within a team environment. Position requires excellent communication and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will be flexible, self-motivated, possess an enthusiastic attitude and demonstrate familiarity with children’s literature.
Schedule: Approximately 18 hours per week; schedule includes mostly evenings and a weekend rotation. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or an LTA certificate and a minimum of one year relevant library experience working with youth, preferably in a public library setting. Salary: $15.88 per hour, DOQ.

Circulation – Shelver I
Do you enjoy organizing, have an eye for detail and are energetic? We are interested in hearing from you! The Shelver I position is responsible for sorting and shelving all library materials, searching for materials as requested, as well as, maintaining the orderliness of all library collections.
Schedule: This 18 hour a week position requires someone with scheduling flexibility and includes day, night and weekend hours. Requirements: Applicants must have a high school degree or equivalent. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull carts. Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Hiring Range: $8.88 – $10.00/hourly (DOQ)

Circulation – Clerk I
The Glenview Public Library is interested in hiring an experienced and reliable Clerk who can assist with a variety of general clerical proficiencies relative to the circulation of library materials. This includes library card registration, answering phones and addressing inquiries, resolve customer concerns, verify and update account information, assist with payments and refunds, and more.
The successful applicant will be the front-end representative of the library, so he or she must have strong interpersonal skills, a polite and friendly disposition, and be readily available to greet patrons and direct them as necessary.
Schedule: This position is 17 hours weekly. Schedule must be flexible to include afternoons, two evenings and every other weekend. Requirements: Applicants should have knowledge of personal computers, including e-mail and Windows based operations. Experience with Polaris, our automated library system (ILS), is a plus. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; library experience is preferred. Hiring Range: $9.97 – $11.22 hourly (DOQ).
