Youth Services – Temporary Summer Intern
The Glenview Public Library is seeking a part-time, paid summer intern in the Youth Services Department to assist with the summer reading program. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic and patient, enjoy working with children and teens, and passionate about encouraging children to read for enjoyment. This is a temporary position that does not include benefits.
Responsibilities include assisting library staff with:
Conducting training sessions for summer reading volunteers
Coaching and mentoring volunteers throughout the program
Scheduling and communicating work assignments to volunteers
Overseeing summer reading program projects for volunteers
Tracking statistics and other record keeping
Working with patrons for summer reading registration and logging
Supporting other youth programming as needed
Other duties as assigned
Abilities & Skills
Effectively communicate in oral and written English
Comfortable speaking to and directing groups of middle school youth and older
Able to collaborate within a team environment, prioritize work and meet deadlines
Experience working with youth and teens and providing customer service to a diverse audience
Display a positive attitude and ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
Knowledge of common office computer applications and spreadsheets, and willingness to learn specialized software, such as, Volgistics and Beanstack
Schedule: 11-week internship from late May through early August. Approximately 20-25 hours per week, although hours may vary depending on library needs. Must be flexible to work daytime, evening and some weekend hours.
Requirements: Relevant experience working with youth. Preferred candidates will be enrolled in or recently graduated from an LTA or MLS program.
Hiring Range: $13.00 per hour. No benefits.

Head of Information Technology
Glenview Public Library seeks an energetic, tech-savvy individual with a broad working knowledge of Information Technology and a proven record of accomplishment in management, preferably in a public library environment. The preferred candidate must have strong personnel, budget and strategic planning skills to lead the Information Technology Department. The Head of Information Technology (IT) manages the Library’s Information Technology systems, is responsible for the evaluation, selection and purchase of equipment, maintains the Library’s IT Department inventory, and integrates new technologies into the existing environment, as needed. The Head of IT hires, schedules, evaluates, trains and/or mentors staff and is responsible for all aspects of administration and management of the Information Technology Department. The position requires excellent communication skills, innovative approaches to organizing, problem solving and knowledge of library trends and technologies including, but not limited to, integrated library systems. The Head of Information Technology is an integral part of the Library’s Management Team.
Requirements: BA or BS in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or Computer Science and 5 years or more in a positions installing, supporting and maintaining IT products and services is required. An IT Certification from a reputable training center is a plus. Minimum 5 years of experience managing an IT team of six or more, with direct report and accountability to top tier organization management.
Hiring Range: $63,326 – $79,158

Circulation – Shelver I
Do you enjoy organizing, have an eye for detail and are energetic? We are interested in hearing from you! The Shelver I position is responsible for sorting and shelving all library materials, searching for materials as requested, as well as, maintaining the orderliness of all library collections.
Schedule: This 18 hour a week position requires someone with scheduling flexibility and includes day, night and weekend hours. Requirements: Applicants must have a high school degree or equivalent. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull carts. Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Hiring Range: $9.03 – $10.16 hourly (DOQ)

Circulation – Clerk I
The Glenview Public Library is interested in hiring an experienced and reliable Clerk who can assist with a variety of general clerical proficiencies relative to the circulation of library materials. This includes library card registration, answering phones and addressing inquiries, resolve customer concerns, verify and update account information, assist with payments and refunds, and more.
The successful applicant will be the front-end representative of the library, so he or she must have strong interpersonal skills, a polite and friendly disposition, and be readily available to greet patrons and direct them as necessary.
Schedule: This position is 17 hours weekly. Schedule must be flexible to include afternoons, two evenings and every other weekend. Requirements: Applicants should have knowledge of personal computers, including e-mail and Windows based operations. Experience with Polaris, our automated library system (ILS), is a plus. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; library experience is preferred. Hiring Range: $10.14 – $11.41 hourly (DOQ).
