Head of Innovation Services
Are you a creative, tech-savvy individual who loves teaching people of all ages about tinkering and crafting? Is DIY a part of your DNA? Glenview Public Library is looking for just such an individual to head up its new Department of Innovation Services. This is an exciting opportunity to build and develop a new “maker” team to support the Library’s Innovation Center that will begin Construction in January, 2020. The Head of Innovation Services is responsible for all aspects of managing the new department, including developing, fostering and maintaining an effective employee team, creating a plan to identify community maker needs, and developing/executing programs within that plan. Responsibilities also include providing “hands-on” teaching and training for staff and patrons, purchasing all necessary tools and materials for the Innovation Center, as well as coordinating, planning, and participating in cross-departmental programming, committees, and projects. The Head of Innovation Services must also have the ability to troubleshoot and/or repair basic equipment. Experience with two or more of the following technologies: laser cutting and engraving, 3D printing, robotics, digital design software, fiber arts, CNC fabrication or other recognized Makerspace technologies required. Interest in or experience with microcontroller platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Micro: bit or similar products also required. Excellent written and oral skills to communicate effectively with all levels of organizational leadership, in addition to a demonstrated proficiency with a variety of social media platforms is a must.
Schedule: 37.5 Hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of two year’s technical training in a related field and minimum five years of progressively responsible experience in administration and management of a unit required. Youth Services – Paraprofessional I (Part-time)
The Glenview Public Library has a part-time opening for a Paraprofessional I in the Youth Services Department. Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting children through grade eight and their caregivers with finding materials, instructing patrons in the use of the online catalog and computer resources, handling event registrations and providing program support, filling displays, assisting with collection-related duties and performing other tasks as assigned.
Applicants should enjoy working with children of all ages and patrons from diverse backgrounds, be proficient in the use of technology and able to collaborate and work well within a team environment. Position requires excellent communication and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will be flexible, self-motivated, possess an enthusiastic attitude and demonstrate familiarity with children’s literature.
Schedule: Approximately 18 hours per week. Schedule includes Tuesday and Thursday evenings, every other Friday (1-9) every other Saturday and one Sunday per month. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or an LTA certificate and a minimum of one year relevant library experience working with youth, preferably in a public library setting. Youth Services – Clerk I (Part-time)
The Glenview Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic candidate who enjoys working with the public, has excellent customer service and communication skills, is able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, will function harmoniously in a fast-paced team environment and is competent working with computers. Duties include, but are not limited to: assisting librarians with programing for children through grade eight and their caregivers, general clerical tasks, operating office equipment, organizing crafts and supplies, preparing and creating program materials, making phone calls, program photography and other duties as assigned. Essential for the position: knowledge of Microsoft Office products, ability to learn specialized library systems and software, detail oriented, able to complete tasks independently and relate well to both children and adults.
Schedule: Position averages 18 hours per week; must be flexible to accommodate a programming schedule that includes day, evening and weekend hours. Requirements: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED. Job experience in an office environment and/or public service experience desirable; previous library experience preferred. Circulation – Shelver I
Do you enjoy organizing, have an eye for detail and are energetic? We are interested in hearing from you! The Shelver I position is responsible for sorting and shelving all library materials, searching for materials as requested, as well as, maintaining the orderliness of all library collections.
Schedule: This 18 hour a week position requires someone with scheduling flexibility and includes day, night and weekend hours. Requirements: Applicants must have a high school degree or equivalent. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull carts. Ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing. Hiring Range: $9.03 – $10.16 hourly (DOQ)

Circulation – Clerk I
The Glenview Public Library is interested in hiring an experienced and reliable Clerk who can assist with a variety of general clerical proficiencies relative to the circulation of library materials. This includes library card registration, answering phones and addressing inquiries, resolve customer concerns, verify and update account information, assist with payments and refunds, and more.
The successful applicant will be the front-end representative of the library, so he or she must have strong interpersonal skills, a polite and friendly disposition, and be readily available to greet patrons and direct them as necessary.
Schedule: This position is 17 hours weekly. Schedule must be flexible to include afternoons, two evenings and every other weekend. Requirements: Applicants should have knowledge of personal computers, including e-mail and Windows based operations. Experience with Polaris, our automated library system (ILS), is a plus. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; library experience is preferred. Hiring Range: $10.14 – $11.41 hourly (DOQ).
