This year’s poetry contest in April in honor of National Poetry Month received more than 230 entries. Librarians selected a winner and a runner-up from each grade grouping.

Grades 1 & 2:
Winner: "Library" by Henry, Westbrook School
Runner-up: "When You Go To a Cubs Game" by Michael, Romona School

Grade 3 & 4:
Winner: "Ode to Honey" by Alexis, Avoca West School
Runner-up: "Waterfalls" by Christina, Avoca West School

Grade 5 & 6:
Winner: "Pencil" by Jessica, Avoca West School
Runner-up: "Dog" by Joey, Avoca West School

Grade 7 & 8:
Winner: "The Office" by Marissa, Marie Murphy School
Runner-up: "Segue" by Daniel, Springman Middle School
