This year’s poetry contest in April in honor of National Poetry Month received almost 150 entries. Librarians selected a winner and a runner-up from each grade grouping. Contest winners and their families were recognized on Saturday, April 26th at the Poetry Month Celebration event where poet Bill Buczinsky performed the winning poems.




Grades 1 & 2:
Winner: "Doctor's Visit" by Annabel E., Lyon School

Grade 3 & 4:
Winner: "Black" by Kathleen K., Pleasant Ridge School
Runner-up: "Name Poem" by Jason M., Washington School

Grade 5 & 6:
Winner: "Three Little Bears: Baby Bear" by Dani L., Willowbrook School
Runner-up: "Donuts" by Xavier F., Glen Grove School

Grade 7 & 8:
Winner: "On the Wings of Faith" by Anna H., Maple School
Runner-up: "Sunflowers" by Connie G., Marie Murphy School


Past Poetry Winners
