LearningExpress Library~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Glenview Public Library has a new database to showcase! LearningExpress Library is a comprehensive, interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help students and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass. Get immediate scoring, complete answer explanations, and an
individualized analysis of your results. Users must establish an LEL account if they want to return to the exam to accumulate results. Most helpful to high school students will be College Entrance Exams, Math Skills Improvement, Advanced Placement, High School Skills Improvement, Writing Improvement Program, and Writing Skills Improvement. These
tests will be especially helpful for students looking to take the ACT and SAT exams, as well as those studying for AP exams and looking to improve their math and reading skills. College Entrance Exams cover ACT practice tests, ACT preparation course series, CUNY practice tests, SAT practice tests, SAT writing practice, and THEA practice tests. Math
Skills covers such areas as algebra diagnostic tests, algebra practice exercises, data analysis and probability diagnostics, math fundamentals, and more. The sections for writing improvement will become especially handy when students are preparing for the written portion of the ACT as well as other tests. Covered in these sections are ACT writing
practice, elementary school writing practice, GED writing practice, SAT writing practice, fundamentals of writing, grammar skills, and grammar practice exercises. High School Skills Improvement covers everything from 9th grade math diagnostic tests to word analogy practice exercises. Learning Express Library also goes beyond the high school experience. There
are sections for Technical and Career College Skills, U.S. Citizenship, Law Enforcement, Job Search Skills, TOEFL Preparation, Nursing, Firefighter, Civil Service, Computer Skills, Cosmetology, E-Books, Military, and Real Estate. This is a great resource for those looking to get extra practice before major exams, or simply to help build a better skill set
of a given profession. Learn computer skills such as Access 2003, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook, PowerPoint, Windows Vista, and Word. To access this GPL database, you may use your Glenview Public Library card number either in the library or at home. Please contact Nicole M. Mills, Young Adult Librarian, at 847-729-7500 for questions about
this exciting new database!

VolunTeens Program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our Young Adult Advisory Kommittee (YAAK) has been successfully replaced with
a new program called VolunTeens.
To date, the library has over 25 hardworking VolunTeens who come in on a
regular basis and perform duties as assigned by various departments. This
gets teens involved with the library community and in helping librarians out
with various projects. This year-round program is available for all teens
ages 13 and up who would like to donate their time and talents and have an opportunity to earn service points. It is a wonderful way for teens to see how the
library operates on a day-to-day basis. Hours are tracked each time a teen comes to the library and helps out with a special project. Certificates of Achievement with hours tallied are sent to VolunTeens at the end of each month
and signed by Nicole M. Mills as well as the Project Supervisor. Applications and detailed flyers are available at the Adult Information Desk. Orientation sessions are on an as-needed basis and cover log in procedures as well as
expectations of being a VolunTeen. Teachers and librarians who would like application forms for your high school or know of perspective students who may benefit from this involvement, please contact Nicole M. Mills. For further
questions, please contact Young Adult Librarian, at 847-729-7500 or through e-mail.
