All Glenview schools are eligible for a School Library Card. See the Glenview Public Library School Loan Procedure for more information.

NEW GLENVIEW SCHOOLS' ASSIGNMENT ALERT FORM
The Glenview Public Library would like to help students and teachers with their assignment needs. Teachers can use this to alert library staff about upcoming assignments and projects.

BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY ENHANCED CLASSROOM EDITION DVDs
The library has the whole DVD collection of 100 episodes of the Bill Nye the Science Guy Classroom Edition DVDs. See inside for more details.

GROUP DISCUSSION SETS
The library currently has sets of over 30 popular titles. See Book Discussion Collection for the complete list of titles.

PRESCHOOL KITS
Appropriate for K-2, the library offers 40 themed kits for loan. See Preschool Kits for complete list.

TEXTBOOK COLLECTION
We currently house textbooks from OLPH, Attea and Springman for use in the library. If your school is interested in donating current textbooks, contact us.

BIBLIOGRAPHIES
The library has several ready-to-use bibliographies. Upon request, a librarian can work with you to create your own.

LIBRARY VISITS
Come visit us! The library is pleased to offer these formats for school visits:

BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOUR
Give your students a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the inner workings of the library. Students will be introduced to the world of circulation and will sneak a peak at the book drop, as well as other library departments.
AGE GROUP: grades 2-8     TIME: 1 hour

LIBRARY SURVIVAL ISLAND
This exciting program introduces students to library resources in a fun and interactive format. Teams test their knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System, practice using the library catalog, and locate materials on the shelves in an effort to discover “hidden pirate treasure.”
AGE GROUP: grades 4&5     TIME: 1 1/2 hours

RESEARCH
Does your class need to research a particular topic? Call the library and we can arrange a visit to meet your specifications.

PROGRAMS
Let us come to you! The Youth Services Department offers library programs to suit a variety of needs:

STORYTIME
We offer 1 traveling storytime program during the school year. This entertaining program may feature any or all of the following; puppets, props, music and of course, great books. Each class is entitled to 1 storytime visit per year.
AGE GROUP: grade 1     TIME: will vary

BOOKTALKS
During the school year, a librarian is available to come to your school and booktalk some of our favorite books.
AGE GROUP: grades 3-8     TIME: will vary

READING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Every year in January/February the library sponsors a tournament where local 5th and 6th graders test their knowledge of books. See Battle of the Books for a complete list or ask your school librarian for more information.

BOOKS AND BADGES
From Labor Day to Memorial Day students ages 2 through 8th grade can read books at home to earn badges. Ask at the Youth Services Desk to sign-up.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Nearly 2, 000 children participate every year in Glenview Public Library’s summer reading program. Informational school visits start in May and the program runs from June to August.

STAR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
June – August only
Students entering 8th grade and up are encouraged to participate in the summer reading program as STAR (Summer Time Assisting Readers) Volunteers. STAR volunteers attend a one-hour training session and are asked to complete 8 hours of service in the library during the summer. Potential volunteers can register starting in April at the Youth Services desk or by phone at (847)729-7500.
