Internet Access Policy
The Glenview Public Library provides access to the Internet as one
information resource among others, and the Library's Mission Statement and
Collection Development Policy provide the context for access. The Library
extends the protections of the Illinois Confidentiality Laws to all records of
Internet activity maintained on Library equipment.
When information is retrieved from the Internet using library equipment,
users must keep in mind these basic positions:
- The Glenview Public Library is responsible only for information that
library staff has produced and published on the Library's web site. The
Library is not responsible for the content, availability or accuracy of
information provided by other agencies or institutions, or for that of any
external sites linked to Library pages.
- The Library reserves the right to terminate an Internet session if
materials are displayed that are inappropriate for public viewing in a
library setting.
- Parents or guardians, not the Library or its staff, are responsible for
Internet information selected and/or accessed by their children. The Library
encourages parents to supervise their children's Internet sessions.
- The Internet may not be used for any illegal activity. The user should
respect copyright laws and licensing agreements.
- Library staff will help users to navigate the Internet; however, library
staff cannot provide in-depth training but will provide programs, classes
and other training materials.
