LIBRARY EXPANSION & FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
GOAL #1: The Executive Librarian and support staff will work toward achieving a new, state-of-the-art library for the residents of the Village of Glenview, which will provide a welcoming environment for patrons to meet and to interact with others in the community.
A.) The library will assess all realistic options in determining the best site for a new facility.
1.1) Conduct a series of Public Information Forums for Glenview residents, keeping them informed of library siting/expansion issues. (ADM 2004 & On-going)
1.2) Hire professionals to get up-to-date appraisals of the property owned by the library and other potential sites under serious consideration (ADM 8/2004)
1.3) Educate the public bout new building plans, using traditional print and electronic methods. (PI 2004 & On-going)
B.) B.) The library will take such interim measures as necessary to maintain a reasonable level of functionality in both patron and staff areas, creatively working within the constraints imposed by an over-crowded, aging facility.
2.1) Conduct an evaluation of the facility to determine which items need to be taken care of sooner than later, with an eye toward safety of staff and public. (ALL 2005 & On-going)
2.2) Engage an electrician to conduct a thorough evaluation of the electrical systems in the building, in order to determine what needs to be upgraded, repaired or replaced to maintain a high level of public and staff safety. (MAINT/ADM 2005/06)
2.3) Reassess spatial assignments within the existing building to create an additional office for Adult Services staff. (ADM/AS 2005)
2.4) Study ways to reconfigure existing stack areas to deal with over-crowded areas. (AS/YS 2005/06)
2.5) Consolidate and reorganize Youth Services office, with focus on the organization of craft materials. (YS 2005)
2.6) Reassess audio-visual shelving needs through weeding and reorganization onto overflow carts. (AS/YS 2005)
2.7) Inventory Maynard Room closets and reorganize/discard items as appropriate. (YS 2005)
2.8) Investigate the reallocation of spaces dedicated to Public Restrooms on the mezzanine and Staff Locker Room for more functional and creative purposes. (ADM 2005/06/07)
2.9) Add additional refuse containers to enable daily refuse disposal. (MAINT 2005)
2.10) Evaluate the need to replace carpeting throughout the library, if plans to build a new library are postponed for any length of time. (ADM 2006)
2.11) Replace timers for parking lot lights. (MAINT 2004/05)
2.12) Evaluate condition of and pave parking lots if expansion project is postponed for any length of time. (MAINT 2006)
2.13) Continue to assess ergonomic working conditions for staff and make improvements as warranted. (ADM/ALL On-going)
2.14) Replace door at rear staff entrance. (MAINT 2005)
2.15) Install a new centralized clock system, so as to reflect uniform time throughout the building. (MAINT 2005)
2.16) Modify the interior doors to the Adult Services Department with the addition of automatic openers, so as to be ADA compliant. (MAINT 2005)
2.17) Assess spatial allocations throughout the building with an eye toward creating private office space for all Department Heads. (ALL 2007)
2.18) Hire a consultant to perform a ADA compliance study throughout the library building, recommending short and long-term accommodations that need to be made. (ADM 2007)
2.19) Increase the number of data and voice ports by pulling (and replacing with Category 5+) the oldest cable from the building's original conduit system. Pull additional telephone cable at the same time to prepare for new or expanded phone system. (TS-2005)
