YOUTH GATEWAY TO LEARNING
GOAL #1: The library provides a variety of materials and programs that encourage the development of literacy skills of youth and their caregivers.
A.) To more effectively market the variety of resources offered by the library for youngsters of all ages.
1.1) Develop a plan for instructing students in the use of electronic resources and the GPL Webpage. (YS January, 2005)
1.2) Identify databases to be introduced, using Library Survival Island format. (YS 2005
1.3) Create Powerpoint presentation of above-referenced plan and present to school librarians. (YS 2005)
1.4) Edit and improve the YS portion of the GPL Webpage, reviewing both content and relevance of links. (YS/TS 2005)
1.5) Coordinate collection development procedures with other departments and identify possible areas of overlap. (YS/AS/TS 2005)
1.6) Assign responsibility for Youth Services bulletin board to specific staff and identify guidelines for content. (YS 2005)
1.7) Maximize the use of materials displays by creating a schedule and identifying three new areas for materials displays. (YS 2005)
1.8) Improve the quality of story time materials by increasing the budget allocation, as well as improving upon methods of replication, labeling and shelving. (YS 2006)
1.9) Establish a schedule and assign responsibility for up-dating of bibliographies. (YS 2005)
1.10) Evaluate the use of Home Enrichment kits and establish a strategy for promotion. (YS 2005)
B.) To increase programming for pre-schoolers by 10% by June of 2005.
2.1) Restructure Romp & Rhyme program into multiple groups. (YS 2005)
2.2) Host story time for home daycare groups. (YS 2005)
2.3) Explore feasibility of kindergarten preparedness program. (YS 2005)
C.) To increase overall attendance at Youth Services programs by 10% by June of 2006.
3.1) Expand programming for school age children, including the addition of a film program. (YS 2006)
3.2) Explore the feasibility of off-site library programs for youth. (YS 2006)
