The Glenview Public Library School Loan Procedure
The Glenview Public Library is extremely pleased to offer special services to area schools, including
school loans. School loans have been available since the mid 1980’s to aid schools by supplementing their
collections for extended loan periods.
How Schools Acquire a School Card
Every school located in the Village of Glenview is eligible for a Glenview Public Library card. At the
beginning of the school year, each principal receives a library card renewal letter. When the letter is signed
by the principal and returned to the Glenview Public Library, a card is issued to the school for one year.
Who May Use a School Card
Two people from each school are authorized to use the school card. This may include the school principal, the school
librarian, the library assistant, or other designated school representative. They are responsible for requesting and
returning materials taken out on the school card. Teachers may request materials through their school librarian, who
then contacts the Youth Services Department. Please allow 24-48 hours for our librarians to fill your request.
What Can Be Loaned on a School Card
All circulating books and audiovisual materials at the library are available for school loan with the following limitations:
- Adult fiction videos cannot be checked out on a school card, but can be checked out on a teacher’s personal card for classroom use.
- Only 5 adult non-fiction books can be checked out in any one subject area.
Additional limits may be placed on duplicate titles, multiple books on a single subject, seasonal and holiday topics.
Please note: the
overlapping needs of different schools often cause a high demand for certain items.

In order to give all schools our very best service, the library relies on Prompt Return of all school loan materials. Abuse of this loan agreement may result in
the school library card being revoked.
We sincerely hope that you will find the school loan service useful and convenient to you. As members of our community, the schools are welcome to benefit from the
collections and expertise available at the Glenview Public Library.
