Library Announcement

America's Star Libraries

The Glenview Public Library recently entered the ranks of the Library Journal’s prestigious “Star” libraries. The Library received a 3-Star rating in the $5 million to $9.9 million mid-size budget category, one of only 19 libraries from the State of Illinois to earn a star ranking.

"Since opening our new building in 2010, we have worked hard to offer a broad range of patron services and exceptional programming for all ages. Receiving this honor on our fifth anniversary in the new facility is a testament to the long-range planning by our Board of Trustees and the professionalism of our staff. This is a significant achievement, given that Illinois ranks among the top three states for such rankings, an indicator of the overall quality of the 639 public libraries in the State,” said Glenview Library’s Director, Vickie L. Novak.
The Library Journal annual rating is statistically-based, comparing four per capita service output statistics: Library Visits, Circulation, Program Attendance and Public Internet Computer Use. Index scores and Star ratings are based on data reported annually by public libraries to their state library agencies. Analysis is done by the IMLS (Institute of Museum & Library Services). In 2015, 7,663 libraries across the country were evaluated by the library field’s leading professional journal with only 261 libraries nationwide receiving a three, four or five star rating.
