I am writing in regard to current and future plans for our organization, the Friends of the Glenview Library.

While membership levels have remained consistent with the past, participation in our monthly meetings (five) has been significantly lower, even though interesting programs of high quality have been offered.

Is this because we changed to rotating meeting days? Is it because of the difficulty of the new library being built? Is it because of the economy? All of the above?

The present plan for 2010 is to eliminate four of the five regularly scheduled meetings. As usual, we will have the ever-popular Barbara Rinella for the Fall Annual Meeting. We will then look forward to the excitement and promise of the new library, which hopefully will be completed sometime late next year. We will plan on resuming the schedule with fresh enthusiam in 2011. We would like to plan a major Friends event in conjunction with the opening of the new library. We will continue with fundraising, and plan to mail out our annual Community Appeal letter in November 2010.

In the new library, our Used Book Store, now housed in an obscure second floor area, will have a room of its own. The Library itself will be an enhanced facility to explore, and all ages will find new and enlarged areas in the new library for their use.
