who are the friends

From a small collection of rented books to the new 85,000 square foot state-of-the art facility, the Glenview Public Library has an illustrious community history, deeply enriched by the ongoing support of the Friends organization.

The Friends of the Glenview Library was established in 1939 as an adjunct group in support of Glenview’s fledgling library. This hardworking group of women and men has been a vibrant community organization since these earliest days of the Library’s history.

The Friends of the Glenview Library is organized exclusively for the charitable, educational, and continuing development of the Glenview Public Library. Proceeds generated by the Friends ongoing fundraising efforts are used to purchase important items not possible in the Library’s regular operating budget, as well as to support special projects.

how the friends support the library

The Friends support many services, programs, and technology projects through their Annual Appeal, the Used Book Store, and their yearly benefit event. Over $1 million dollars in special services and equipment have been provided by ongoing community support.

Annual Community Appeal

The Friends send their Annual Appeal to the Glenview community in early December. While most of the Library’s funds come from property taxes, there are a number of special services, programs, and technology items that are purchased with the funds donated by The Friends’ broad base of community supporters each year. Please consider making a donation so that the Glenview Library remains one of the highest quality public institutions on the North Shore. The Friends of the Glenview Library is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and your gift is tax deductible.
