Reference Services - Paraprofessional II

The Glenview Public Library has a part-time opening for a Paraprofessional II in the Reference Services Department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: helping patrons with informational and directional questions, in person and over the phone; instructing patrons in the use of the online databases and catalog system; and various duties within the department, which may include teaching computer classes, coordinating displays and selecting print materials in assigned area.

Applicants should enjoy working with the public, be proficient in the use of technology, be able to work within a team environment and demonstrate familiarity with a nonfiction collection. Excellence in customer service in patron and staff interactions and strong communication skills are required.

Schedule: Approximately 16/hours per week; must be flexible; mornings, afternoons and evenings required, plus weekend rotation.

Requirements: BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university, and a minimum of two years related experience in a public library setting. LTA certificate also preferred.

Hiring Range: Begins at $18.96/hour – DOQ.

IT Services – Computer Aide (Part-time)

The Glenview Public Library has a part-time opening for a Computer Aide. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Facilitating access to the Library’s Internet and other public computer workstations by registering and assisting patrons with their use;

Acting as a first contact for assisting patrons and staff with technology issues;

Performing basic care and maintenance of Library computer hardware.

Position requires excellent communication, customer service, and computer support skills. The ideal candidate will possess a basic knowledge of technology equipment. Must be able to troubleshoot basic hardware, software, and connectivity issues to resolution. Must be able to collaborate and work well with others.


Knowledge of a variety of computer hardware, software and peripherals is essential.

Must be able to lift, bend, stoop, and carry up to 25 pounds.

Schedule: Approximately 14 hours per week; must be flexible for covering weekday afternoons and evenings plus weekend hours.

Hiring Range: Begins at $9.00/hour - DOQ.

Circulation - Unit Supervisor /Assistant Head of Circulation

The Glenview Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, energetic, and collaborative individual to assist in the supervision and management of the staff and services of the Circulation Department. The Assistant Head of Circulation reports to the Head of Circulation, serves as a member of the Circulation Team, and is responsible for scheduling, training, evaluating, and supervising the Circulation Clerical team. The Circulation Department consists of Circulation, interlibrary loan, shelving, Drive-Up window, and reception desk.

The Assistant Head of Circulation facilitates excellent customer service to all library patrons and staff and the Glenview community; must understand, utilize, and troubleshoot current technology; must be able to prioritize tasks, problem solve, and manage time effectively; assists in the development of the Department’s annual operating budget; evaluates and recommends procedures and guidelines to ensure efficiency and effectiveness; and effectively supervises and manages the Department in the absence of the Department Head. This position may serve as a liaison with CCS, the library’s ILS Consortium.

Requirements: Must have knowledge of personal computers, including e-mail and Windows based operations, Integrated Library Systems, preferably Sirsi Dynix, as well as knowledge of other library applications relating to Circulation. Minimum of an Associate Degree or LTA preferred; two years’ public library experience required, one of which is supervisory.

Schedule: Full-time position, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

Hiring Range: $40,770 - $46,595. An excellent benefits package includes health insurance; IMRF pension plan; and paid vacation, sick days, and holidays.
